Court Appearance and Charges

Their comments followed a brief court appearance by their brother, Nick Reiner, 32, who has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths. Prosecutors allege that Nick Reiner fatally stabbed both of his parents inside their Southern California home before fleeing the scene. He was arrested several hours later near downtown Los Angeles.
Authorities have filed special circumstance allegations, including multiple murders and the personal use of a deadly weapon — charges that could expose Reiner to life in prison.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said Tuesday that no decision has yet been made regarding whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty.
Medical Examiner Findings
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner released preliminary findings confirming that Rob and Michele Reiner died from multiple sharp-force injuries, officially ruling the deaths as homicides.
Nick Reiner appeared briefly in court but has not yet entered a plea. His defense attorney, Alan Jackson — known for representing high-profile clients — said Reiner has not been medically cleared. He is expected to be formally arraigned in January.

Hollywood Reacts
As legal proceedings move forward, tributes to Rob Reiner continue to pour in from across Hollywood. In a joint statement to The Associated Press, close friends and collaborators including Billy Crystal, Martin Short, Albert Brooks, and Larry David praised Reiner as a “master storyteller” and a “passionate, brave citizen.”
They also honored Michele Singer Reiner for her lifelong dedication to social causes and public service, noting that the couple devoted much of their lives to improving the lives of others.
A Legacy Overshadowed by Tragedy
Rob Reiner’s career spanned decades, shaping American film and television through classics such as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, and This Is Spinal Tap. Now, that legacy is overshadowed by a deeply personal tragedy that has stunned both Hollywood and the public.
