🚨 Developing: Heavy Police Presence Continues Near Brown University as Manhunt Enters Fifth Hour
Providence, R.I. — Heavily armed law enforcement officers continued sweeping streets surrounding Brown University late Tuesday as the manhunt for a shooting suspect entered its fifth hour following a deadly attack at the school’s Barus & Holley engineering and physics building.
Authorities confirmed the suspect remains at large, prompting a continued full lockdown across the Ivy League campus. Students have been ordered to shelter in place, with reports indicating some remain barricaded inside classrooms, dorm rooms, and supply closets as police expand their search.
Federal Agencies Join the Search
Providence Police are being assisted by multiple federal agencies, including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), as the security perimeter around campus widened into nearby neighborhoods.
Officials have not announced any arrests and have urged the public to avoid the area until further notice.
Casualties Confirmed
City officials confirmed that at least two people were killed and eight others critically injured in the shooting. Emergency medical personnel remain on scene, and hospitals across Providence are on heightened alert.
University leadership emphasized that the lockdown will remain in effect until authorities determine the area is fully secure.
“This is a fluid and ongoing situation,” officials said, asking students and staff to remain patient and follow all safety instructions.
Campus on Edge
Students across campus described hours of fear and uncertainty as police sirens echoed through nearby streets and emergency alerts continued to update the situation. Some students have been sheltering in place for hours without clear guidance on when restrictions may be lifted.
Authorities say additional updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
