Newsom Launches New Website Highlighting Trump Associates as California Reports Continued Drop in Violent Crime
Updated | California News
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the launch of a new public website Tuesday as his administration released updated data showing that violent crime continues to decline across major cities in California, according to year-over-year figures from law enforcement agencies.
The website, unveiled by the governor’s office, compiles publicly available information related to criminal convictions, legal cases, and clemency decisions involving individuals who have received pardons or support from President Donald Trump.

California Crime Trends Show Continued Declines
According to data from the Major Cities Chiefs Association, California saw notable reductions in several categories of violent crime compared with the previous year:
- Homicides: Down 18%
- Robberies: Down 18%
- Aggravated assaults: Down 9%
- Overall violent crime: Declined in every major California city reporting data
The largest decreases were reported in Oakland (25%) and San Francisco (21%), while some cities outside California experienced increases during the same period.
Purpose of the New Website
State officials said the new website is intended to serve as a centralized resource that aggregates information about individuals who have received presidential pardons, commutations, or other forms of support under the Trump administration.
The site focuses on high-profile cases involving convictions for offenses such as drug trafficking, financial crimes, and public corruption, as well as individuals connected to the January 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol attack.
In a statement, Governor Newsom emphasized the contrast between California’s crime trends and national debates around public safety and criminal justice.
“California is seeing continued progress in reducing violent crime,” Newsom said. “This website provides transparency around clemency decisions and criminal cases that are part of the national conversation.”

Pardons and Clemency Decisions Highlighted
The website references several individuals who received pardons or commutations during Trump’s presidency, including former public officials, business figures, and defendants convicted in federal cases.
State officials said the information presented is drawn from court records, sentencing documents, and publicly reported legal outcomes.
The governor’s office noted that the website does not introduce new allegations but compiles existing information in one place for public review.
Federal Public Safety Funding Concerns
The announcement also reiterated concerns raised by California officials regarding reductions in certain federal public safety and prevention programs, including funding for drug trafficking enforcement, human trafficking prevention, and victim support services.
State officials argue that sustained investment in prevention and enforcement is critical to maintaining recent crime reductions.
California’s Public Safety Investments
Newsom highlighted California’s own investments in public safety, noting that the state has committed $1.7 billion since 2019 toward crime prevention, law enforcement support, and community safety programs.
These efforts include expanded operations targeting organized retail theft, additional resources for local law enforcement, and bipartisan legislation aimed at addressing property crime and auto theft.
Broader Political Context
The website launch reflects ongoing political differences between California leadership and the Trump administration over public safety priorities, criminal justice policy, and the use of executive clemency.
No response has been issued by the White House as of publication.
