Nick Reiner to Be Charged With Murder in Deaths of Parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner
LOS ANGELES — Prosecutors in Los Angeles County announced Tuesday that Nick Reiner, 32, will be formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of his parents, legendary Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner.
The announcement comes two days after the couple were found stabbed to death inside their Brentwood home on Sunday afternoon, in a case authorities have described as both tragic and deeply disturbing.
Prosecutors Confirm Murder Charges
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman confirmed that charges will be filed later Tuesday, marking the most significant development so far in the high-profile investigation.
Reiner is currently being held without bail, according to officials. Prosecutors said he will face two counts of first-degree murder, each carrying the potential of life imprisonment if convicted.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive, citing the ongoing nature of the case.
Discovery of the Bodies
Emergency responders were called to the Reiners’ Brentwood residence Sunday afternoon following a medical aid request. Upon arrival, paramedics pronounced Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, dead at the scene.
Law enforcement sources said both victims suffered multiple stab wounds, and the deaths were immediately classified as a homicide. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division took over the investigation and secured a search warrant for the home.

Custody and Investigation Status
Nick Reiner was taken into custody later Sunday and remains jailed as prosecutors prepare to formally present the case in court. Officials have not said whether additional charges could be filed or when Reiner is expected to make his first court appearance.
Investigators continue to review physical evidence, forensic findings, and witness statements. Authorities have emphasized that details surrounding the alleged events inside the home remain limited.
A Hollywood Family in Tragedy
Rob Reiner was a towering figure in American film and television, known both for his acting role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family and for directing classics such as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Stand by Me, Misery, and A Few Good Men.
He and Michele Singer Reiner were married in 1989 and shared three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy Reiner. Rob Reiner also had an adopted daughter, Tracy Reiner, from his previous marriage to Penny Marshall.
What Comes Next
Prosecutors are expected to release additional details as Nick Reiner is formally arraigned and the case enters the court system. Authorities have cautioned that information may continue to evolve as the investigation proceeds.
This remains a developing story.
